JS Bach - Motets – Masaaki Suzuki, Bach Collegium Japan

Review:

This CD is an absolute revelation. I will never hear the Bach motets in quite the same way ever again. Suzuki and his Bach Collegium Japan have outdone themselves yet again. The blend, balance, and intonationMasaaki Suzuki are absolutely perfect. Every cadence is executed with razor sharp precision. Each voice is well separated from the others in the polyphonic movements, and even the bass is in balance. The continuo actually blends with the bass voices without overpowering. The sopranos are light and perfectly in tune singing with straight treble character without harshness.

The technical perfection here is matched by rich musical expression. One can not fail to be moved as Suzuki draws out the depth of spirit of these gorgeous masterpieces in every phrase.
